Obama Launches Gandhian Manusmriti Corporate Zionist Imperialism in his Sales Trip!Visiting US President Barack Obama on Monday described India as a key actor on the world stage, and a country that has already emerged as a world power. Obviously, it reflects EXPANSION of US Imperialism keeping in view the Strategic realliance of Zionsim and global Hindutva and the Governance of India by India Incs, LPG Mafia, Extra Constitutional Elements like Nilekani, Ahluwalia, Pitroda and so on, and the World bank IMF Superslaves with imported Political leadership!
First US Black President seems NOT so balck at all! As he leads a zonist Regime shared by Global Hindutva. It is quite relevant that he quoted Gandhi and gandhian Ideology most by any US President to pass the Massege of sacred Marriage of Zionism and Global Brahaminical Hindutva. We know well that so called Mahatma was the Greatest enemy of the Black Untouchables world wide, the aboriginal Indigenous Global Humanscape across Political Borders who preached NON Violence to justify and Sustain Manusmriti Rule. The FAITH expressed in Ayodhya verdict roots back in gandhian Ideology which is the gist of Manusmriti and Vedic Literature based on Ethnic Cleansing and Discrimination, Injustice. Inequality and Calsh of Civilisation. Thus, NOTHING but Gandhian Ideology justifies most the Worldwide Corpoarte War, LPG Mafia and economic Exclusion and Ethnic Cleansing!
Gandhi on lips and ARMS for Deal! Non Violence is the theme song translated in America`s War against Aboriginal Indigenous Black Untouchable Human scape Worldwide as well as the Monopolistic Aggression aginst Nature and Nature associated Communities as we witness LIVE in Central India and all over the Persecuted AFSPA Zone of the Himalayas!
US President Barack Obama on Monday paid his ultimate homage to Mahatma Gandhi -- for guiding him to the presidency of the world's oldest democracy.
"I am mindful that I might not be standing before you today, as president of the United States , had it not been for Gandhi and the message he shared with America and the world," Obama told Indian MPs to thunderous applause.
He said the Nov 6-9 visit to India held a special meaning for himself and his wife Michelle .
"Throughout my life, including my work as a young man on behalf of the urban poor, I have always found inspiration in the life of Gandhiji and in his simple and profound lesson to be the change we seek in the world.
"As just as he summoned Indians to seek their destiny, he influenced champions of equality in my own country, including a young Martin Luther King.
"After making his pilgrimage to India half a century ago, King called Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence resistance 'the only logical and moral approach in the struggle for justice and progress'."
Obama, who said he was profoundly moved by his visits to Mani Bhavan, the Gandhi residence in Mumbai and at Rajghat, the memorial in Delhi that stands at the spot Gandhi was cremated, had earlier described Gandhi as the "hero to the world".

'May the friendship between our two countries continue to grow in the years to come,' US President Barack Obama Monday wrote in the guest book of the Indian parliament.
He also wrote that it was a privilege for him to address Indian parliamentarians.
From 'bahut dhanyavad' to 'Jai Hind', US President Barack Obama Monday regaled Indian people with his knowledge of the country's ancient wisdom, history and cultural diversity.
He may have missed visiting the Golden Temple this time, but US President Barack Obama has assured that he will do so on his next trip to India.
Obama told this to Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal during the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his residence in New Delhi Sunday evening.
According to Badal, Obama said he would visit the Golden Temple in Punjab the next time he comes to India.
Badal conveyed the sentiments of Punjabis in general and the Sikh community in particular to Obama after the US president cancelled his visit to Amritsar at the last minute.
Badal, Akali Dal MP from Bathinda and wife of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, was the only MP from across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand to meet the US president.
'President Obama said the scheduled visit to Amritsar had to be altered because of time constraint. The president said he was himself very keen to visit the holiest of the holy Sikh shrines as it is a beacon of spiritual enlightenment, love and universal brotherhood and that he would 'speak to (my) people to ensure that Amritsar featured' on his itinerary the next time he visits India,' Badal said in a statement here.
Obama, who was told about the resentment among Sikhs who were being subjected to checking of their turbans, which is a religious headgear, 'promised to have a look at the issue', Badal said.
The US would continue to pressurise Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack to justice and ensure there are no terror havens within its territory, President Barack Obama told Indian parliamentarians Monday.
"And we will continue to insist to Pakistan's leaders that terrorist safe havens within their borders are unacceptable, and that the terrorists behind the (2008) Mumbai attacks be brought to justice," he said in his speech to the joint sitting of the two houses of parliament.
"We must also recognise that all of us have an interest in both an Afghanistan and a Pakistan that is stable, prosperous and democratic - and none more so than India," he asserted.
He was saying this in the context of the US' counter-terror activities with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
"The Pakistani government increasingly recognises that these networks are not just a threat outside of Pakistan - they are a threat to the Pakistani people, who have suffered greatly at the hands of violent extremists," he noted.
On Afghanistan, he said the US was making progress in its mission to break the momentum of the Taliban and said the commitment to the Afghan people would endure. "The United States will not abandon the people of Afghanistan - or the region - to the violent extremists who threaten us all."
He also made mention of India's development projects in the war-ravaged country. "America's fight against Al Qaeda and its terrorist affiliates is why we persevere in Afghanistan, where major development assistance from India has improved the lives of the Afghan people."
In his 45-minute speech at the Central Hall of Indian parliament, Obama referred to the visit of Swami Vivekananda to his hometown Chicago a long time ago and to the famed Panchatantra stories.
As the MPs applauded him repeatedly, in the end giving him a standing ovation, Obama spoke about Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar for penning the 'words of the (Indian) constitution'.
There were references in his speech to a village in Punjab, to the bylanes of Chandni Chowk, an old section of Kolkata and to a high-rise in Bangalore.
The president did not forget Rabindranath Tagore, quoting the poet's immortal words: 'Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.'
Obama recalled the name of his hero Mahatma Gandhi five times -- and mentioned India 61 times.
US President Barack Obama Monday signalled collaboration with India in education and health, calling these as key areas of cooperation.
'As a representative of the world's oldest democracy, it is a true privilege and honour to address the world's largest democracy,' he wrote.
US President Barack Obama on Monday hailed deeper and closer alliance with his host India, which he said had established itself as a world power and a natural US ally on the global stage.
Obama is walking a diplomatic tightrope in New Delhi, on the one hand trying to boost diplomatic and business ties with India while on the other ensuring relations with Pakistan and China, nations often at loggerheads with India, stay stable.
In his three day trip -- the longest stay in any foreign country by President Obama -- the U.S. leader announced $10 billion in business deals, aiming at reassuring voters that countries like India offer benefits for U.S. jobs rather than causing unemployment through outsourcing.
Obama has also announced the United States would relax export controls over sensitive technology, another demand of India's.
US President Barack Obama today offered to play any role India and Pakistan would like on resolving Kashmir issue while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made it clear that New Delhi was not afraid of discussions but terror from across the border must stop.
After talks with Singh, Obama said the two countries have agreed on the need for all nations in the region to take steps to ensure that there are no safe havens for terrorists.
Noting that Kashmir was a long-standing dispute, Obama told a joint press conference that it was in the interest of India and Pakistan to reduce tensions between them.
"The US cannot impose solutions to these problems. I have indicated to Prime Minister that we are happy to play any role the parties think is appropriate in reducing tensions.
Stating that(Visiting US President Barack Obama on Monday described India as a key actor on the world stage, and a country that has already emerged as a world power) this was view shared by both Republicans and Democrats back home, President Obama told ANI at a joint press conference that he addressed at Hyderabad House with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here, that as far as he was concerned, the relationship between the United States and India was "extraordinarily important for me."
"First of all, this relationship is extraordinarily important to me, and don't just take my word for that, I think, look at our actions," Obama said.
He further went on to say: "Obviously, this trip has been of enormous significance. It is no accident that this is the largest time that I have spent in a country since I have been president, and both the prime minister and I have alluded, so this is why I think this partnership can be so important."
Describing India and the United States as the world's two largest democracies, Obama said: "We have both a set of values and principles that we share, that I believe are universal, the belief of/ in individual liberty, freedom of the press and freedom of political assembly, in human rights."
He further said that both countries have large market economies, and therefore, in that context, the nurturing of the bilateral commercial and strategic partnership was and would continue to remain important to the leadership of the two nations.
"We both have large market economies and the person-to-person contacts between India and the United States are unparallel. We have millions of Indian Americans who are helping to grow our country each and every day," said Obama.
"And we have hundreds of thousands of students from India who are studying in the United States, and bringing back what they have learnt to help develop India," he added.
He said: "And, so, on the commercial level, person-to-person level, on a strategic level, I think this partnership is incredibly important."
He said that apart from him, his predecessors - Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton - each has emphasized why the relationship with India is important, were and are committed to nurturing this relationship.
He said that the business leaders who had accompanied him on this visit to India are working actively in the private sector "to strengthen those ties".
"We want to make sure that our governments are acting in the same constructive way. If we do so, then I think that is not only going to benefit India and the United States, but I think, it will ultimately benefit the world as well," said Obama.

It was no coincidence that India was the first stop of his visit, US President Barack Obama said on Monday while addressing the joint sitting of parliament during which he recalled the inspirational powers of Mahatma Gandhi and the ancient Indian civilisation.
"Thank you for the great honour of addressing the representatives of more than one billion Indians of the world's largest democracy," Obama said to thunderous applause, adding that he brought "greetings and friendship from the world's oldest democracy, including three million proud and patriotic Indian Americans".
He said that during the last three days, he and his wife Michelle had been welcomed at every stop with the hospitality for which Indians are known.
"I am proud to visit India so early in my presidency," he said, adding that it was no coincidence that India was his first stop in the Asia visit.
"India is not simply emerging, India has emerged," he reiterated to another round of thunderous applause.
It was his firm belief, he said, that the India-US relationship was one of the "prime partnerships of the 21st century".
"This is the partnership I have come here to build."
Stating that India was a civilisation that had been shaping the world for thosuands of years, he said: "Our information age is rooted in Indian innovations including the number zero."
Obama also recalled the words of Rabindranath Tagore - "where the mind is without fear and the head is held high" -- and Mahatma Gandhi's immortal diktat to be the change that you seek.
"I might not be standing before you as president of the United States had it not been for Gandhi and his message."
U.S. President Barack Obama endorsed on Monday India's long-held demand for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council, a largely symbolic move that may put diplomatic pressure on rival regional power China.
India says a seat on the council would reflect the growing weight of the G20 nation as its trillion dollar economy helps spur global growth and its government exerts more and more influence over issues from Doha trade to climate change talks.
"In the years ahead, I look forward to a reformed United Nations Security Council that includes India as a permanent member," Obama said in a speech to India's parliament in New Delhi.
"Let me suggest that with increased power comes increased responsibility," he added at the end of the first leg of a 10-day Asian tour that has also been seen about gathering support from countries like India to exert pressure on China on its currency.
Ben Rhodes, White House deputy national security adviser, told a news conference ahead of Obama's speech that "this was a full endorsement" for India's permanent membership of a reformed Security Council.
It could still be a pipe dream and likely face resistance from some countries reluctant to water down the power of the five permanent members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States.
But it is probably Obama's most headline-grabbing announcement on his first official visit to the world's largest democracy that has seen the U.S. leader seeks greater trade with India's massive markets as well as to help counterbalance the rise of China.
The U.N. Security Council has since the body's inception had five permanent members with the power to veto resolutions. It has been criticised for not reflecting global power in the 21st century.
Obama's trip with more than 200 business executives, and his U.N. announcement, underscored the growing importance of India, which by 2020 is expected to be one of the five largest economies in the world, along with Asian powers China and Japan.
Obama will also visit Indonesia, South Korea and Japan on the tour that will see Washington push to prevent countries unilaterally devaluing currencies to protect their exports, a top theme at the G20 meeting in Seoul this week.
"I don't think India is emerging. It has emerged. India is a key actor on the world stage," Obama told a joint news conference with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier on Monday.
The U.S. president said he would support India's membership of four global non-proliferation organisations, a move that will reassure New Delhi -- left out of these groups after its 1998 nuclear tests -- that Washington is recognising its global clout.
It is unclear how much new Washington will get from India.
Sectors like retail and the financial services are still heavily restricted to foreign investors and there are few signs that Singh's ruling Congress party has plans for any major reforms soon.
The U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Francisco Sanchez, said in New Delhi that the United States wanted greater market access to India's infrastructure and energy sectors. India has targeted to spend $1 trillion over five years on upgrading its poor infrastructure, from potholed roads to log-jammed ports.
U.N, SCEPTICISM
For all the talk of a U.N. seat, it could take as much as a decade to achieve. Some in the United States have been sceptical about giving India a seat as it has often stood against the United States in U.N. votes.
"The UNSC (U.S. Security Council) is not going to be reorganised in the next eight to 10 years," said Gurmeet Karmal, director of Centre for Land Warfare Studies, a New Delhi based think-tank.
"I do not think China will openly come in the way, but they will encourage some of its friends to vote against any such move."
Whether answering questions from students over Pakistan or talking to farmers by video link, Obama's trip has won positive coverage in a nation where U.S. cultural influence is growing as is a new middle class, millions of consumers strong.
Obama has met with some criticism at home for travelling abroad so soon after his losses in mid-term elections over unemployment, but has been well received in India, vowing to lift export controls.
Highlighting the regional diplomatic jigsaw that Obama must negotiate in India, Singh appeared to rebuff calls by the U.S. president for India and Pakistan to move forward on peace talks.
Singh poured cold water on any immediate improvement in relations with Pakistan, in the doldrums since Pakistan-based militants killed 166 people in a rampage through Mumbai in 2008.
Obama on Sunday had called on the two nuclear foes, who have gone to war three times since independence in 1947, to take small steps to improve ties.
"You cannot simultanously be talking and at the same time the terror machine is as active as ever before," Singh told the joint news conference.
"Once Pakistan moves away from this terror-induced coercion, we will be very happy to engage productively with Pakistan to resolve all outstanding issues."
Indian officials have long expressed scepticism at U.S. support for Pakistan, saying Islamabad is hoodwinking Washington by taking aid while also backing militants in Afghanistan.Stable Pak riddle for India
Obama echoes PM but skirts road ahead
SANKARSHAN THAKUR * * Barack Obama locks Manmohan Singh in an embrace soon after landing at Palam airport in Delhi. The US President hugged Singh after shaking hands with him and greeted Gursharan Kaur with a peck on her cheek.
The atmospherics could not but revive memories of another hug, bearing testimony to the seismic shift in geopolitical relations. At the 1983 Non-Aligned Movement summit in New Delhi, Fidel Castro stunned the audience and Indira Gandhi by locking her in a bear hug before handing her the chairperson's gavel. The then Indian Prime Minister
appeared taken aback and Castro a bit surprised at the reaction but the loud applause that broke out made it the most unforgettable moment of the summit. (PTI picture)
New Delhi, Nov. 7: President Barack Obama's artful refusal to play to the ultra-nationalist gallery and wield the whip on "terrorist" Pakistan could well strengthen the chosen course of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his core foreign policy team on resolving prickly issues with their neighbour.
However, many remain a little beguiled by Obama's "stable Pakistan" exhort to India in isolation of a spelt-out framework for getting there.
Obama finally uttered the P-word during an interaction with students in Mumbai this morning to the relief of critics carping over his "soft-pedalling" on the terror issue. However, to their continued frustration, he remained unprepared to brand or blacklist Pakistan, preferring to advocate engagement over denouncement.
He also said, during the course of an extempore and extended response to a student's question, that while the US "stands in support" of peace on the subcontinent, it is for India and Pakistan to negotiate a peace that would help both nations move ahead.
"I am absolutely convinced that the country that has the biggest stake in a stable Pakistan is India," Obama said, in what became the centerpiece of a college-campus chat that quickly began to ring above the Indo-US diplomatic table. "If Pakistan is unstable, it is bad for India; if Pakistan is stable, it is good."
Paraphrased, this is broadly the burden of what Prime Minister Singh has been trying to convince the Indian nation — and political opposition within and outside his party — of, since he signed that controversial joint statement with Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani at Sharm-el Sheikh last summer.
Repeatedly since Sharm-el Sheikh, Singh has defended his adopted line arguing: "We cannot choose our neighbours, we have to live with Pakistan. Both of us stand to benefit hugely if we can establish peace at a time of global economic change. If you do not want war, engagement with Pakistan is the only option."
Consequently, while Singh's government has continued to push Islamabad — to little yield — on accountability and justice to be brought to the perpetrators of the 26/11 attack and on dismantling the Pakistan-based terror infrastructure, he has also marshalled multi-layered engagement in search of a resolution which, he is not scared to admit, is down a long and tortuous path.
A senior diplomat familiar with the blow-hot-blow-cold of Indo-Pak ties said: "Of course, Pakistan is a very important issue for us and a constant terror-irritant and it is bound to come up during closed-door talks, but it is best discussed in private, insulated from the street and street sentiment. This is an immensely complex relationship with multiple interlinkages into the world we live in. We understand what he is saying, we think it is a subtle endorsement of what our Prime Minister is attempting to do — trust but verify.
"Obama has said there is much wrong with Pakistan, he said he himself is aggressively telling them to contain terror, but equally he is saying don't stop engaging. What's wrong with that? What comes of calling them names?"
Contrary to disaffection in some sections that Obama is "trying to put the onus for straightening ties on India and Pakistan", South Block's understanding also is that his position is an endorsement of the Indian stand that steadfastly opposes third-party intervention.
However, former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal wondered that while the argument that "stable Pakistan is good for India" remained a truism, who'd spell out what would make Pakistan stable and what India could do to that end? Obama's public remarks so far have not thrown any light on a blueprint to making Pakistan stable.
"The truth is," said retired diplomat Girija Shankar Bajpai, "even the Americans are confounded about it, they are blundering all over Pakistan and Afghanistan. It isn't easy to find answers."
Pakistan is key to America's pursuit of Osama bin Laden and the objective of uprooting terror from Afghanistan. But official circles are disappointed that there was no US stamp on the Indian position that Pakistan's government or its agencies sponsor terror in India.
Even so, New Delhi appears keen, for reasons that go beyond Pakistan and terror, that the current visit becomes another step in what it calls the "continuum" of improving ties. There may be a few evident clues to suggest that there is a tacit understanding in the Singh establishment of Obama refraining from going explicit in his Pakistan-bashing.
The foreign office has let out no sign of annoyance, on record or on background. Prime Minister Singh, having watched the Mumbai interaction, threw aside protocol to receive the Obamas personally on their arrival.
In the few extended minutes that the welcomes were exchanged in Palam's Technical Area Airbase, it was evident nothing had happened so far that violated the agreed script or spirit of the presidential visit.
Bonhomie sparkled on television, and the little summit-level tarmac chat resulted in a significant rearrangement of the evening's plans. Singh and Obama met privately for almost an hour ahead of their not-so-private dinner at 7 Race Course Road. The meeting was described as "no-aides, no-notes".
The ladies, Michelle and Gursharan Kaur and other members of the Singh family, spent time in another room.
Some of the knee-jerk street sentiment generated by Obama's remarks — actively spurred and mongered in live television studios — was that Obama had fallen short of "Indian expectations" that he would stand and be counted among those sending out a "strong and unambiguous" message against Islamabad's "organised export of terror" to India, most stunningly manifest in the 26/11 Mumbai assault.
The former Indian high commissioner to Pakistan, G. Parthasarathy, gloated over what he thought was vindication of his long-held view that the US would put its strategic interests in Pakistan-Afghanistan above empathising with, or addressing, India's concerns on terror.
But a foreign office player cautioned: "What matters really is not on the microphones and on television screens, it happens quietly in backrooms. There will always be differences between nations but India and America have for a variety of reasons gradually arrived at a new place."

India is one of strongest markets in world: Aaron Smith, MD, Superfund Financial
In an interview with ET Now, Aaron Smith , Managing Director, Superfund Financial , analyses the holistic economic scene in Asia, factoring in global markers like food inflation , currency fluctuations & valuations in the Indian equity market. Excerpts from the interview:
Now that the QE2 is announced, where do you see global asset classes moving in the short-to-medium term?
To some extent, the markets did factor in a stimulus package and I do believe that the short-to-medium term technical trend is in favour of equities. We maintain long positions in most global equity markets. However, the question that you have to ask yourself as an investor is if the Sensex goes to 30000, if Dow Jones trades at 20000, if Heng Seng is 40000, what will be the purchasing power of the underlying paper money that you have supporting that?
So it does not really help you if equity markets go up 50% or 100% from here when the paper money is behind such as the US dollar loses 50% of its purchasing power. So basically what we see in the media today, most people have this widespread notion that inflation is not a factor. However, if you look at the United Nation's data, they say that there is increase in food prices over 26% year over year ending October. If you compare that with energies, oil is up to around $86 a barrel. So any consumer price index which does not really factor into food and energy is really ignoring the vast majority of the 6 million plus people in the world today.
So inflation really is there. The value of your rupee, your yen, your dollar, all of those currencies, no matter how they relatively strengthen or weaken against each other, are actually losing value relative to the daily goods that you need in your life.
What about the dollar though? What do you think is the medium term outlook for it given that there will be plenty of it in the system?
You can go back to basic economics to figure out what will happen in the monetary system. The supply of dollars and the supply of other fiat currencies is increasing. What we know from very very basic economics is that when supply increases, the value diminishes. The incremental value of each dollar or each piece of fiat currency that you own will be less whereas if you compare that with precious metals like gold where the supply is relatively stable, there is 170,000 tonnes of gold in the world that is increasing by 0.5% a year and the production for that 0.5% is becoming extremely expensive. Take 76 hours now of manpower of labourer to actually produce a single ounce of gold out of Europe. So it is extremely expensive.

US President Barack Obama arrived here today on a three-day visit during which about 18 announcements are expected to be made on a wide range of areas covering economy, security and political spheres including possible easing of export controls on dual use items.
Obama, the sixth US President to visit India and the third in 10 years, arrived here along with his wife Michelle, cabinet colleagues, National Security Adviser Tom Donilon and 200 business leaders, the largest such delegation ever.
The US Air Force One touched down at 12:50 p.m. on a visit which Donilon said the President intends to be "a full embrace of India's rise, a way to develop and deepen the broadest possible relationship with India as a cornerstone of our Asia policy."
The Presidential couple was warmly received by Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan , Union Minister Salman Khursheed, who is the minister-in-waiting, US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer and Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar.
After pleasantries, the President and his wife walked across the tarmac to a waiting US Marine One which flew them to the downtown. A smiling President waved to a strong gathering of journalists and photographers.
Obama heaped praise on the country and its Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the end of a three-day trip, which saw a raft of commercial deals signed and agreements to cooperate more closely in agriculture, health and energy.
The president said that the principles of democracy and human rights were too often ignored around the world, but India and the US would combine to promote them in "one of the defining partnerships of the 21st century."
"For our two countries to be able stand together to promote these principles in international forums, I think can be incredibly powerful and incredibly important," he said at a joint press conference with Singh.
Previously, Obama has described India as "indispensable" and a "cornerstone" of US policy in Asia, where analysts say the democratic South Asia giant is seen as a counterweight to increasingly assertive and authoritarian China.
Obama's courtship of India reflects the rapid growth in the country's economy and a shift in power to emerging nations as a result of the global financial crisis, which has hit Western powers hard.
Later Monday, Obama will address the Indian parliament and he hinted he may back India's bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations permanent security council.
"I will be addressing that issue of a permanent seat for India in my speech to parliament today," he said.
Singh, who enjoys a close and friendly relationship with Obama, said the allies would now work as "equal partners", while the US president stressed earlier Monday that India was now "a world power", rather than an emerging one.
"We have decided to accelerate the deepening of ties to work as equal partners in a strategic relationship," Singh told the press conference.
Obama's remarks will be closely watched elsewhere in Asia, particularly in China, which will be weighing the geopolitical implications of the embrace ahead of talks between Obama and President Hu Jintao in Seoul this week.
Relations between Delhi and Washington, characterised by mistrust and occasional hostility during the Cold War, were reset by former US president Bill Clinton in the 1990s and invigorated by his successor George W. Bush.
Obama arrived in New Delhi on Sunday after paying homage to victims of terror attacks in Mumbai and seeking job-creating dividends for the struggling US economy in India's commercial hub.
He unveiled 10 billion dollars in trade deals designed to bankroll US jobs and announced the relaxation of export controls on US technology that can be used for military applications.
The latter move reflected how Washington's view of India as a strategic partner rather than "a country of concern," one of Obama's advisers said on Saturday.
Inevitably, given US engagement in Afghanistan and its close relationship with India's regional rival Pakistan, Obama was asked Monday about the role Washington could play in bringing stability to conflict-ridden South Asia.
The disputed region of Kashmir is at the centre of strained relations between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, who have fought two wars since 1947 over the divided Muslim-majority province.
Text of President Barack Obama's address to Parliament
Text of President Barack Obama's address to the joint session of Parliament made at its Central Hall on Monday:
Mr. Vice President, Madame Speaker, Mr. Prime Minister, Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and most of all, the people of India.
I thank you for the great honor of addressing the representatives of more than one billion Indians and the world's largest democracy. I bring the greetings and friendship of the world's oldest democracy-the U.S.A, including nearly three million proud and patriotic Indian Americans.
Over the past three days, my wife Michelle and I have experienced the beauty and dynamism of India and its people. From the majesty of Humayun's Tomb to the advanced technologies that are empowering farmers and women who are the backbone of Indian society.
From a Diwali celebration with schoolchildren to the innovators who are fueling India's economic rise. From the university students who will chart India's future, to you-leaders who helped to bring India to this moment of promise.
At every stop, we have been welcomed with the hospitality for which Indians have always been known. So to you and the people of India, on behalf of me, Michelle and the American people, please accept our deepest thanks. Bahoot dhanyavad.
I am not the first American president to visit India. Nor will I be the last. But I am proud to visit India so early in my presidency. It is no coincidence that India is my first stop on a visit to Asia, or that this has been my longest visit to another country since becoming President.
For in Asia and around the world, India is not simply emerging; India has already emerged. And it is my firm belief that the relationship between the United States and India-bound by our shared interests and values-will be one of the defining partnerships of the 21st century. This is the partnership I have come here to build. This is the vision that our nations can realize together.
My confidence in our shared future is grounded in my respect for India's treasured past-a civilization that has been shaping the world for thousands of years. Indians unlocked the intricacies of the human body and the vastness of our universe. And it is no exaggeration to say that our information age is rooted in Indian innovations-including the number zero.
India not only opened our minds, she expanded our moral imagination. With religious texts that still summon the faithful to lives of dignity and discipline. With poets who imagined a future "where the mind is without fear and the head is held high." And with a man whose message of love and justice endures-the Father of your Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
For me and Michelle, this visit has therefore held special meaning. Throughout my life, including my work as a young man on behalf of the urban poor, I have always found inspiration in the life of Gandhiji and in his simple and profound lesson to be the change we seek in the world. And just as he summoned Indians to seek their destiny, he influenced champions of equality in my own country, including a young Martin Luther King. After making his pilgrimage to India a half century ago, Dr. King called Gandhi's philosophy of non-violent resistance "the only logical and moral approach" in the struggle for justice and progress.
Michelle Obama wins India with her understated style
US First Lady Michelle Obama , who has a reputation of being a fashionista, kept her sartorial choice for her India visit trendy but understated though some designers felt she should have opted for a saree at some events.
All eyes were on the wife of visiting US President Barrack Obama for a peek on the choice of her ensemble as she landed in Mumbai on Saturday. She opted for a a chic grey knee-length tunic dress with pearl buttons that resembled an Indian kurti.
Fashion designers noted on Monday that the outfits Michelle wore in Mumbai were sombre and toned down and that she opted for simple colours.
46-year-old Michelle's clothes, which is used by her to make a statement however subtle--both personal and political--, have often led to a comparison with Jackie Kennedy and Lady Diana.
After her arrival, she switched to a high-waist checkered skirt teamed with a green top during her visit to the Mumbai University where she and President Obama interacted with students.
However, when she landed in Delhi, Michelle picked a more colourful turquoise dress with her hair swept in an updo. She also decided to go a bit jazzy during the dinner later in the evening hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a black tunic with golden embroidery for the dinner, which was attended by noted personalities from different fields.
Indian fashion designers believe that by opting for simple colours and designs Michelle is trying not to attract too much attention to herself and keep her visit understated as far as fashion is concerned.
"She's definitely more covered up," says designer Poonam Bhagat referring to the First Lady's trademark off shoulder dresses. "She is very gracious as a person and she is able to carry off waist high dresses with style that is narrow on the top," she said.
"However, I didn't like the printed skirt with the blue top it didn't complement her and gave her a girl-next-door look. Otherwise most of the time she has been dressed appropriately," added the Delhi designer.
Michelle usually is seen favouring sheath dresses with silhouette's body-skimming cut that flatters both her height and her curves.
While some designers like Ritu Kumar expected the First Lady to wear some India inspired clothes like the saree others say she might have found it difficult to carry it off. "I think she has the statuesque frame to carry off the saree or a draped garment like a saree-inspired gown.
"I would have loved to see her in something traditional like a sari or an Indian embroidered dress" adds Kumar.
"With her tall athletic frame with good height and skin tone, she can carry off colours like yellows and red similar to what Indians wear. She has the body for a saree," says Bhagat.
"She is dressing as expected of her in a conservative fashionable but not flashy way. Her clothes reveal that she has a style of her own and is not a fashion victim," says Manoviraj Khosla.
"What she is wearing is reflective of her deep sense of respect for the Indian culture and she has opted for colours and designs which do not attract attention to her. She has obviously tried to play it down by opting for sensible and practical looks," says Rina Dhaka.
Most designers concurred on Michelle's dignified and poised personality which enabled her to carry off almost any outfit.
"I think she has been dressed elegantly throughout. She is not flashy. She is a very sensible lady and has opted for dresses that suit traditional Indian dressing style," says designer Anamika Khanna.
Trade imbalance to be on G-20 agenda in Seoul: Obama
Describing India as a "part of the solution", US President Barack Obama on Monday said the burning issue of international trade imbalance will be discussed by global leaders at the G-20 meeting in Seoul next week.
"When we go to the G-20, we are going to talk about a host of issues, including how do we start creating balanced and sustainable growth... How do we make sure that countries that may have extended themselves for a long time start getting their houses in order," Obama said in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after a delegation-level talks here.
The US has been vocal against a huge trade surplus of China at USD 190 billion. It has also conveyed its displeasure over value of yuan which the US believes is undervalued to help the Chinese exporters at the cost of the American and other economies.
Obama emphasised that his country has no complaints against India as the trade balance is concerned.
The India-US trade of USD 36.6 billion is balanced. In 2009, India exported goods worth USD 19.53 billion to the US and imported American goods worth 16.97 billion.
"I should point out that India is a part of the solution and not part of the problem... Generally, there is a balanced growth pattern with respect to India... We have got excellent trade ties with India," he said.
Even though in his meetings in Mumbai, Obama had asked for removal of trade barriers by India, he said at the joint press conference, "India has been moving in a more liberal direction consistently and has been very constructive partner in some of these international issues."
Without making reference to any specific country, the Indian Prime Minister said, he has an expectation from the G-20 meeting in Seoul for working towards a balanced global trade. "The world needs a new balance between deficit countries and surplus countries..."
Singh said that this balance can be achieved by paying more attention to development potential, including infrastructure development.
Singh described Obama as "father" of G-20. "It was his initiative that led to the creation of G-20," the Prime Minister said.
The G-20 is a grouping of world's most influential developing and developed countries including India, China, Brazil, Russia, US, Germany, France, among others.
Its Seoul meet is the fifth since it met for the first time in 2008 in Washington in the backdrop of the world financial crisis.
Oppose the Myanmar junta, Obama tells India
US President Barack Obama Monday urged India to come out against the military junta in Myanmar, gently telling New Delhi that it had often remained silent on such issues.
After paying tribute to India's democratic system, Obama told Indian MPs in a stirring speech that democracies could not remain silent over what was happening in Myanmar.
'When peaceful democratic movements are suppressed -- as in Burma -- then the democracies of the world cannot remain silent. For it is unacceptable to gun down peaceful protesters and incarcerate political prisoners decade after decade.
'It is unacceptable to hold the aspirations of an entire people hostage to the greed and paranoia of a bankrupt regime.
'It is unacceptable to steal an election, as the regime in Burma has done for all the world to see.'
Obama added: 'Faced with such gross violations of human rights, it is the responsibility of the international community -- especially leaders like the US and India -- to condemn it.
'If I can be frank, in international fora India has often avoided these issues. But speaking up for those, who cannot do for themselves, is not interfering in the affairs of other countries... It is staying true to our democratic principles.'
India, which shares a long border with Myanmar, has close ties with the military junta.
Michelle gets a taste of India at Crafts Museum
US First Lady Michelle Obama today got a taste of India''s rich cultural diversity when she visited the National Crafts Museum here and had a glimpse of the varied skills of artisans from across the country. Attired in a green skirt and a black top, 46-year-old Michelle reached the museum soon after paying respects at Mahatma Gandhi''s memorial at the Rajghat.
She broke away from US President Barack Obama''s cavalcade as her husband went straight to Hyderabad House for a summit meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. According to museum officials, artisans had been enthusiastically preparing for the visit, picking their best works for display.
Soon after independence, various projects and schemes for preservation and development of handicrafts were envisaged in the first and second five-year plans. The establishment of a Crafts Museum was an integral part of this policy.
The core collection of the Crafts Museum was put together in the 1950s and 60s to serve as reference material for the craftsmen whose hereditary traditions were fading on the face of industrialisation. The museum building for displaying India''s rural and tribal arts is designed by renowned architect Charles Correa as a metaphor for an Indian village street -- affable, accommodative and active.
A walk across the crafts museum building is through open and semi-open passages covered with sloping, tiled roofs and lined with old carved wooden ''jharokhas'', doors, windows, utensils and storage jars and perforated iron screens. The courtyards have domed pigeon houses adorned with arches and lattice work panels, terracotta shrines dedicated to basil plants and massive temple chariots.
The scales and proportions of the building are based on those of the traditional Indian village where objects of everyday life are hand-made and used. Why Obama didn''t visit Bhopal gas tragedy victims, asks MP govt
Voicing disappointment over the silence of President Barack Obama on the plight of Bhopal gas tragedy victims, Madhya Pradesh government today demanded that the US consider renewed demands for compensation and ensure cleaning of chemical waste at the site. A letter listing the demands and a request to Obama to meet the victims of the 1984 gas tragedy has been sent by the state government to Union Home Minister and Chairman of the Group of Ministers on the Bhopal Gas incident P Chidambaram on November 5, state minister Babaulal Gaur told reporters here.
"If President Obama can pay his tributes to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attack and stay at the Taj hotel in Mumbai which was attacked by the terrorists in 2008, he should have also come and met the families of the Bhopal Gas tragedy and expressed his solidarity with them," the Madhya Pradesh Minister for Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief and Rehabilitation Department said. "If Obama would have come to Bhopal in a humanitarian gesture, he would have known the feelings of the victims and residents of Bhopal," Gaur said.
A similar letter has been handed over to Governor Rameshwar Thakur who will also be present during the ceremonial banquet to be held for Obama by the President. "Compensation for Bhopal Gas victims needs to be secured on par with those in cases of grave industrial disasters in America.
It is notable here that recently in an accident involving British Petroleum Corporation, the yardstcik for compensation granted by the American company to the British citizens was a lot different. "An initiative is called for in applying the same yardstick in respect of compensation for the Bhopal Gas victims too.
Complete responsibility for disposal of chemical waste and sanitisation of Union Carbide factory premises in Bhopal city must rest with the Union Carbide Corporation or its successor company, Dow Chemical," the letter said.Obama praises India's success story written under democracy
The United States President, Barack Obama, today appreciated the resilience of India that it has shown in the last 60 years while abiding itself by the principles of democracy and steadily making itself a great success before the world.
Addressing the Joint Session of Indian Parliament here on Monday, Obama had high accolades for India as he appreciated the fact that instead of resisting the global economy, this nation became one of its engines.
"An ancient civilization of science and innovation. A fundamental faith in human progress. This is the sturdy foundation upon which you have built ever since that stroke of midnight when the tricolour was raised over a free and independent India," said the U.S. President, adding "And despite the skeptics who said that this country was simply too poor, too vast, too diverse to succeed, you surmounted overwhelming odds and became a model to the world."entioning about the transformation brought in through Green Revolution, Obama said: "Instead of slipping into starvation, you launched a Green Revolution that fed millions. Instead of becoming dependent on commodities and exports, you invested in science and technology and in your greatest resource - the Indian people. And the world sees the results, from the supercomputers you build to the Indian flag that you put on the moon."Instead of resisting the global economy, you became one of its engines - reforming the Licensing Raj and unleashing an economic marvel that has lifted tens of millions from poverty and created one of the world's largest middle classes," he said.
Obama also chose to appreciate the diversity of India, saying: "Instead of succumbing to division, you have shown that the strength of India - the very idea of India - is its embrace of all colours, castes and creeds."
"It's the diversity represented in this chamber today. It's the richness of faiths celebrated by a visitor to my hometown of Chicago more than a century ago - the renowned Swami Vivekananda. He said that, "holiness, purity and charity are not the exclusive possessions of any church in the world, and that every system has produced men and women of the most exalted character," he further added.
The U.S. President showered high praise for the Indian election system, Indian judicial system which helped the nation maintain democracy all around without compromising anyone's freedom for progress.
Obama said: "And instead of being lured by the false notion that progress must come at the expense of freedom, you built the institutions upon which true democracy depends - free and fair elections, which enable citizens to choose their own leaders without recourse to arms; an independent judiciary and the rule of law, which allows people to address their grievances; and a thriving free press and vibrant civil society which allows every voice to be heard."
"And this year, as India marks 60 years with a strong and democratic constitution, the lesson is clear: India has succeeded, not in spite of democracy; India has succeeded because of democracy," the U.S. President remarked. (ANI)Mukherjee calls for collective approach to deal with global crisis
Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said that we have learnt a lesson from the current global crisis that remedy lies in collective and corroborative approach-not in unilateralism
Addressing the Indo-US CEOs forum meeting, Mukherjee said: "In our anxiety to solve problem in one part of the World, we should not create greater problems in other parts of the World and more so in the Emerging Markets Developing Countries (EMDCs).
He further said that in infrastructure sector alone, the investment requirement is US dollar 514 billion for the Eleventh Plan (2007-08 to 2011-12), out of which almost 30 per cent of this investment is envisaged to come from private sources.

Mukherjee said that for us, the US remains a prime source of investment, technology and an important trading partner.
He said that as we make efforts to increase investment in infrastructure, and give a fresh impetus to the manufacturing sector, the importance of our partnership with the US would increase.

He further said that we have set-up a Committee to consider the recommendations of the Indo-US CEO's Forum under the Chairmanship of Deputy Chairmanship of Planning Commission and the Committee has already met twice.

The United States President Barack Obama on Monday said the terrorists' safe havens within Pakistan borders were unacceptable, asserting that the United States will insist that terrorists behind 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks be brought to justice.
"We will continue to insist to Pakistan's leaders that terrorist safe-havens within their borders are unacceptable, and that the terrorists behind the Mumbai attacks be brought to justice," the U.S. President said here today.
Addressing the Joint Session of the Parliament here on Monday, President Obama said: " As we work to advance our shared prosperity, we can partner to address a second priority - our shared security."
Recalling his meeting with the families of Mumbai terror attacks, President Obama termed the incident "barbaric" and paid tribute to the victims of 9/11 and 26/11 attacks, He said: " In Mumbai, I met with the courageous families and survivors of that barbaric attack. And here in this Parliament, which was itself targeted because of the democracy it represents, we honor the memory of all those who have been taken from us, including American citizens on 26/11 and Indian citizens on 9/11."
The U.S. President further said the relationship between India and the United States was bound by shared values, adding that the two nations were partners in meeting the challenges.
"This is the bond we share. It's why we insist that nothing ever justifies the slaughter of innocent men, women and children. It's why we're working together, more closely than ever, to prevent terrorist attacks and to deepen our cooperation even further. And it's why, as strong and resilient societies, we refuse to live in fear, we will not sacrifice the values and rule of law that defines us, and we will never waver in the defense of our people," he said.e said nuclear terrorism and proliferation were on top of the agenda of the United States.
Talking about America's fight against the terrorist outfits Al Qaida and its affiliates, Afghanistan, he remarked that major development assistance from India has improved the lives of the Afghan people.
President Obama said: " We're making progress in our mission to break the Taliban's momentum and to train Afghan forces so they can take the lead for their security."
President Obama said that American forces will begin the transition to Afghan responsibility next summer, but made it clear that America's commitment to the Afghan people will endure. He said: "The United States will not abandon the people of Afghanistan - or the region - to the violent extremists who threaten us all."
Talking about U.S.'s two-pronged strategy in meeting the challenge posed by Al Qaeda and Taliban, Obama said: "Our strategy to disrupt, dismantle and defeat Al-Qaida and its affiliates has to succeed on both sides of the border. That is why we have worked with the Pakistani government to address the threat of terrorist networks in the border region."
He said that the Pakistani government increasingly recognises that these networks are a threat to the Pakistani people, "who have suffered greatly at the hands of violent extremists."
"We must also recognise that all of us have and interest in both an Afghanistan and a Pakistan that is stable, prosperous and democratic - and none more so than India," he added.
On the issues between India and Pakistan, Obama clearly stated that it was for both the countries to resolve them and the U.S would welcome any dialogue held between the two neighbours. He said: "In pursuit of regional security, we will continue to welcome dialogue between India and Pakistan, even as we recognize that disputes between your two countries can only be resolved by the people of your two countries."
Obama wanted the United States and India together to pursue the goal of securing the world's vulnerable nuclear materials. He said: "We can make it clear that even as every nation has the right to peaceful nuclear energy, every nation must also meet its international obligations - and that includes the Islamic Republic of Iran. And together, we can pursue a vision that Indian leaders have espoused since Independence - a world without nuclear weapons."
President Obama received a standing ovation in the Parliament House as he concluded his address with the remark "Jai Hind".

Four key pacts likely to be inked today
India and the United States finalised at least four agreements on shale gas reserves, weather forecasting, health and energy cooperation programme by Sunday evening, top government sources told The Indian Express.
The agreements are expected to be signed at Hyderabad House after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh holds bilateral talks with US President Barack Obama on Monday. The talks will begin with a one-on-one between the two leaders, followed by delegation-level discussions.
Sources said Prime Minister will be accompanied by External Affairs minister S M Krishna, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A K Antony and Home Minister P Chidambaram.
A few more agreements are in the works as negotiations continued till late in the night, sources said. The two countries will call for a meeting of the joint working group, with focus on higher education expected to be reflected in the joint statement of the two leaders on Monday.
"Shale gas reserves" is a new area India is readying to tap and US companies are waiting with their technology. Shale deposits are found across the Gangetic plains, Assam, Rajasthan and many coastal areas but yet to be explored.
Recently, ONGC announced plans to start a pilot project in 2011. With a memorandum of understanding in place, the two governments can hope to find common ground to explore hitherto untapped sources of energy.
The two governments will look at another pact on 'energy cooperation programme'. This will broadly cover all sources of energy, including renewable source, and ties in with Obama's focus on climate change.
A pact on "weather forecasting" is also on the cards. This flows from the commitment both leaders shared last year when Singh visited the US in November 2009 that they looked forward to increase agricultural cooperation, promote agricultural research, etc.
A pact on establishing a 'regional global disease detection centre in India' and to build a partnership with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also likely to be signed.
Advani targets China, says atrocities committed in Tibet
In unusually strong remarks, senior BJP leader L K Advani today said China's "expansionist" statements such as those on Arunachal Pradesh are creating obstacles in restoring normalcy between the two neighbours.
"I wish China realised that its expansionist statements such as those in relation to Arunachal and its tacit support to Pakistan's hostile attitude towards India are stumbling blocks in the way of restoring normalcy between our two countries," he said in his latest blog posting.
He claimed that the relationship between India and China will be one of the key determinants of the course of world history in the 21st century.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will visit India next month for talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other leaders during which the two sides are expected to take up bilateral irritants and ways to sort them out.
"There is no alternative to peaceful coexistence between India and China," Advani stressed.
According to the BJP veteran, despite India's acute sense of betrayal by China in 1962, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, first as External Affairs Minister in the Morarji Desai Government and later as Prime Minister, "consciously exerted" towards achieving this end.
Referring to Tibet and its exiled leader Dalai Lama, Advani said even though a lot of atrocities have been committed and much of the cultural and spiritual heritage of Tibet damaged - "most of all during China's shockingly
mis-named Cultural Revolution (1967-77)" - Tibet continues to be the holy land of the Tibetan people.
"...I do hope and pray that a day will come soon when His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan people living in forced exile are able to go back to their Home Land and Holy Land in an honourable and dignified way, and thereafter be able to build the future destiny of Tibet," he said in the blog.
The Dalai Lama and thousands of Tibetans live in exile in India after being forced out of the country in the 1960s.
China calls Dalai Lama a "separatist" and talks between the two sides have failed.
Maoist trigger blasts to protest Obama visit
Maoists triggered blasts at a railway station and two government buildings in Jharkhand while enforcing a shutdown to protest US President Barack Obama's India visit, police said Monday. The rebels also abducted a railway official.
Maoist guerrillas blasted a portion of Satbahani railway station in Palamau district, some 170 km from Ranchi, late Sunday and kidnapped the station manager, a police official said.
In a separate incident, the rebels triggered blasts using dynamites at panchayat buildings in Rajhara village of Vishrampur block and Basna village of Nava block in Palamau. No one was injured in both the attacks.
The outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has called a 24-hour shutdown from Sunday midnight till Monday midnight to protest Obama's four-day India visit.
Heavy security arrangements have been made in many parts of the state in the wake of the shutdown. As a precautionary measure, five trains have been cancelled on Coal Indian Cord (CIC) section and the route of four trains have been changed by railway authorities.

Lady O's dresses could have been more festive, say designers
She has repeatedly been on the list of the world's best-dressed people and is known for her populist style, but First Lady Michelle Obama's wardrobe during her Indian visit so far lacks the Indian touch and the sparkle of colours, experts say.
US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle on their arrival at Mumbai. A section of fashion experts believe that Michelle Obama chose colour grey considering that she was to first take part in the function to honour those who died at the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
The 46-year-old landed in Mumbai on Saturday with her husband President Barack Obama as he began a four-day visit. Initially dressed in a formal steel grey buttoned dress, Michelle followed this up with a a J Crew-designed basic-striped greenish top teamed up with a high-waist skirt during her visit to the Mumbai University. Both outfits have not gone down well with Indian designers. On the other hand, a section of fashion experts believe that Michelle Obama chose colour grey considering that she was to first take part in the function to honour those who died at the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks.
US First lady Mitchelle Obama plays "hopscotch" during an interaction with students from the Make A Difference (MAD) NGO, at the Mumbai University campus in Mumbai. The olive green top and multi-hued skirt are a J Crew creation.
"She could have worn something more colourful, something in keeping with the festive mood since it was the Diwali season, designer Kavita Bhartiya told IANS, but tempered this by adding: "What she wore was so simple and elegant... may be she just wanted to be official and correct."
According to designer Rahul Jain, Michelle Obama "should have considered this was a very important festival time for Indians. She should have dressed accordingly for the festive season".
US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle speak with Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan as they prepare to depart for New Delhi. The US First Lady's outfit is far from festive. Perhaps she wanted to be "official and correct".
"If it was up to me, I would have dressed her up in something Indian with a little embroidery. They say so much about India's culture and heritage and one cannot dress more appropriately," he added.
Often praised globally for her classic and confident look, Michelle Obama has been repeatedly featured on multiple magazines' "10 of the World's Best Dressed People" lists. Having become a trendsetter, in particular with her sleeveless dresses showcasing her toned arms, Michelle Obama has also been compared to Jacqueline Kennedy for her sense of style - and to Barbara Bush for her discipline and decorum.
U.S. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama pay their respects after placing a wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Rajghat in New Delhi.
Her favourite designers are Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Isabel Toledo, Narciso Rodriguez, Donna Ricco and Maria Pinto.
Designer Nida Mahmood also expected the First Lady to deck up in attire that had a hint of Indian tradition and with a lot of colours.
"Western sensibilities are different from ours - they usually dress in shades of black on such occasions... although we would all have liked to see her in clothes with an Indian flavour," Mahmood noted.
U.S. President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama greet children as they tour Humayun's tomb in New Delhi. The blue dress is a creation by designer Peter Som.
"She carries whatever she wears very well. But I would have loved to see her in something more Indian, even it was a dress with an Indian print or a colourful scarf," she added.
At the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Michelle Obama's outfit is designed by Naeem Khan and the necklace by Naeem's sister Ranjana Khan.
When Michelle Obama landed in Delhi Sunday, she was wearing a blue western dress.
"She's a smart woman, she knows what to wear and what not to. Of course we were expecting to see her in something more Indian," said designer Neeraj Chauhan.
"
"I'm sure she will wear a lot of bright and colourful clothes in the coming days but if it was up to me, I would love to dress her up in a sari," he added.
