Congress versus RSS
The ruling party must abandon soft Hindutva policy to ideologically fight out saffron terror

The outrage expressed by the Congress leaders and activists over the filthy and nonsensical remarks of K.Sudarshan, former chief of the Rashtrtiya Swayam Sewak Sangh ( RSS) against Sonia Gandhi is certainly not misplaced. Such remarks betray a fascist mindset which sees conspiracies every where outside the sangh parivar, calling all those who disagree with the communal and fascist RSS ideology as conspirators and traitors. In his vicious remarks Sudarshan had dubbed Sonia Gandhi as a "CIA agent" who had even "conspired in the assassination of both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi." Such remarks are as ridiculous as these are ludicrous. One need not be an admirer or supporter of the UPA chairperson to condemn such outlandish remarks of a leading light of the sangh parivar. The protests in different parts of the country against Sudarshan's lunatic remarks by the Congress men and women are no doubt fully justified. What cannot, however, be condoned is the attack on the RSS offices at some places by the enraged Congress workers in their fit of anger. To do so is only to fall in the trap of the RSS and follow its fascist ideology which is intolerant to every voice of dissent. Some senior Congress leaders have hit back by either using abusive language against Sudarshan or threatening to retaliate. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Bansal said that Sudarshan "seems to have lost his mental balance" while the AICC general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi branded him as a "fossil from archaeological museum". The issue of Hindutva terror and dangers from the fascist RSS ideology to the country's secularism and even its integrity need not be personalized as it is not a clash between Sudarshan and Sonia Gandhi but a question of exposing and fighting the nefarious saffron terrorism. What had actually provoked Sudershan and those of his ilk was the speech of Sonia Gandhi at the AICC session in which she warned the country against the growing threat from saffron terrorism and the pernicious RSS ideology. Tragically, instead of facing the threat of Hindutva fascism, which has assumed an alarming proportion during the past few decades, the Congress has been following a soft Hindutva policy to outdo its main political rival, BJP, an offspring of the RSS. This has been particularly evident in the post-Nehru era. Whatever his other failures or mistakes, Jawahar Lal Nehru had been consistently fighting the Hindutva ideology and the RSS hate campaign. He came out openly and boldly against the communal riots organized by the RSS in different parts of the country on the eve of partition and soon after the country achieved independence. It was the RSS hate campaign which led to Gandhiji's assassination by the followers of the pernicious Hindutva ideology. The communal, fascist and racist nature of the RSS ideology has been fully expounded in the book "We the Nationhood Defined" written by the second RSS chief M.S.Golwalkar, worshipped as "guruji" by all RSS swayamsewaks who also consider his book as a "Bible". The RSS was banned after Gandhiji's assassination but subsequently Sardar Patel lifted this ban after Golwalkar gave some written undertakings.
Tragically, the divided secular forces in the country in general and the Congress in particular have failed to come out vigorously and consistently against the pernicious RSS ideology and mobilize public opinion against it. In fact the Congress, and even some other secular parties, have compromised with the communal forces keeping in view their electoral considerations. The Congress in fact has been following a soft Hindutva approach for the past three decades which has emboldened the Hindutva forces to gain strength. Congress has even been adopting Hindu symbols, following Hindu rituals and assuming ultra- nationalistic role to suit its political conveniences. The demolition of Babri mosque by the hoodlums of the sangh parivar was the result of the Congress compromising with such forces instead of fighting them out. The Congress similarly failed to expose the true character of the sangh parivar and their role in anti-Muslim pogrom in Gujarat, assaults on Christians in Orissa, Kanataka and several other places and the terrorist acts by those associated with the parivar, to which belated by Sonia Gandhi referred recently. In Jammu and Kashmir the Congress has always tried to appease the RSS and other communal and rightist forces, some of which are the party's creation during the elections. The dubious role of the Congress leaders and workers during Shri Amarnath land row -related agitation in Jammu spearheaded by the RSS is too well known. The Congressmen tried to outdo BJP by joining the anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmir chorus. Unfortunately the Congress and other secular parties like the National Conference and their governments have always followed the policy of appeasing the Hindutva communalists in Jammu region instead of fighting them out. The Congressmen violently protested against Sudarshan when he spoke against Sonia Gandhi using all kinds of vituperatives. But the RSS has been attacking and posing a serious challenge to secular values and composite character of the Indian state and instead of coming out openly to expose RSS ideology the Congress has been adopting a soft Hindutva approach. Even now instead of making it a personal clash between Sudarshan and Sonia the Congress should come out vigorously to expose and fight out the communal fascist RSS ideology.

Black-marketing on Eid eve
CAPD authorities refuse to wake up from their deep slumber

During the Eid festivities, over-charging and black-marketing of essential commodities appears to become the order of the day with unscrupulous traders resorting to unfair means for fleecing the consumers. Moreover, these unlawful activities appear to be ruling the roost in whole of Jammu and Kashmir with Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) authorities refusing to wake up from their deep slumber and come to the rescue of hapless consumers. Only a few days back, the CAPD officials notified the rates of some of the essential commodities for the traders asking them not to resort to over-charging during the festive season. But these rate lists are being violated by the traders while selling their good which are high in demand during this period. In a few cases, some of the traders have been booked for black-marketing of essential commodities by the CAPD officials but these action do not appear to have had desired impact on the unscrupulous businessmen particularly in Kashmir valley. Jammu region also does not present a very rosy picture on this account as over-charging is going on unabated. Mutton and chicken prices have suddenly shot up in the state during this festive season. Despite the fact that huge number of live stock has been imported from other states of the country for meeting the demand in J&K, the prices have remained static or have made a movement upwards. It appears that the CAPD officials, who share the booty with the unscrupulous traders are least bothered about controlling the prices. Many items needed for this festive occasion are being sold at double the prices with no check on their unlawful activities. The government agencies charged with the responsibility of saving its consumers from being fleeced have utterly failed in their duties. The government and its agencies need to gear up their staff and monitoring cells for giving an attention to the complaints of the consumers. The consumers are confused about the prices and have no where to complain against the activities of the unscrupulous traders. The monitoring cells need to be strengthened on this issue for providing some relief to the people.
