Barack Obama, Manmohan Singh meeting to focus on economic issues: US
WASHINGTON: The meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and PresidentBarack Obama at the White House later this month would primarily focus on economic issues, a senior US administration official has said.
"I think this will be a visit that is very focussed on economic issues, what the US and India can do together to generate economic growth," the official said yesterday, at a media briefing.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Washington for a day on September 27 for a meeting with Obama at the White House and the logistics are still being worked out.
Last month, National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon during a visit to Washington had exuded confidence of a successful visit by the Prime Minister.
The US said the Obama-Singh meeting "will highlight India's role in regional security and stability and provide an opportunity" for the two leaders to chart a course toward enhanced trade, investment, and development cooperation between the two countries.
