Fight for the Rights of Bengali Refugees in Parliament – Praful Patel
24.2.2013

A mass meeting was organized under the banner of Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanvay
Samiti (NiBBUSS) in Gondia district of Maharastra wherein more than 3000 active members of
NiBBUSS participated to share their concerns to honorable Heavy Industries Minister Sri Praful
Bhai Patel on 24.2.2013. Dr. Subodh Biswas, the National President of NiBBUSS shared the dais
with many other distinguished guests such as Sri Anil Deshmukh, honorable minister of
Maharastra Government, Sri Rajendra Jain, MLA etc.
Sri Bidhan Bepari submitted 3 appeals to honorable minister requesting for citizenship
amendment, caste reservation and land rights. Dr Biswas said, our ancestors dedicated their
lives in freedom fights of India but in the independent India their successors (we) have no
identity rather we are blamed as infiltrators. Based on 'two nation theory' and the promises of
Mahatma Gandhi & Nehru we took abode in India but still we are deprived off our
constitutional rights. By amending citizenship act in 2003, a question mark is put in our Indian
nationality status. Those who dedicated their lives in freedom fight of India, their successors are
blamed as infiltrators in India. India got freedom in the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra
Bose but today the same Bengalis are begging for their rights, is there any other saddest
chapter in Indian history than this? We lost our ancestral properties in bringing freedom to
India but we were displaced in 18 states by government of India and even after 65 years of
independence we are still deprived off our fundamental rights.
Honorable Minister Sri Praful Bhai Patel accepted the greater contribution of Bengalis in
freedom fight of India and promised that the Rastravadi Congress Party will fight for the rights
of these displaced Bengalis within and outside Parliament. Honorable Minister expressed his
dissatisfaction for not being given the land rights to these communities though they in position
of the land for last 50 years. He reiterated that the caste reservation shall be at par with other
states like Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Orissa and West Bengal. He was sad to know that
the amendment to citizenship act in 2003 by BJP government devastated the lives of displaced
Bengalis in India and assured the gathering that his party would take cognizance of it to fight it Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanway Samiti

inside the parliament. He proudly announced that these Bengalis are our brothers and sisters as
they are original son of the soil.
Sri Anil Deshmukh said that he would try and resolve all state level problems by a convening a
cabinet meeting; he assured that they will not tolerate any further deprivation of these
communities in India. The local MLA also promised to take up these issues at appropriate levels.
Office bearers of NiBBUSS such as Sri Nirmal Mondal, Sri Bidhan Bepari, Sri Shailen Khairati, Sri
Narayan Sadhu, Sri Shailen Mallik, Sri Kanu Sarkar, Sri Uday Sarkar, Sri Tarapada, Smt Geeta
Sarkar, Smt Kanan Mondal, Sri Sunil Sardar etc. were also present on the occasion.
